Statement
Color, texture and mark-making is the foundation for my paintings, collages and hand-pulled prints. My paintings are intuitive, spontaneous, and punctuated with action, movement and gestural markings. I love the concept of the unknown that begins with each new piece of art and unfolds along the way to completion. Painting is part mystical and a study in patience, but the validation and gratification that comes from a viewer connecting to my art is beyond measure.
My artwork is relatable to the Tachism movement, the French style of abstract expressionism popular from 1940-1950. Seeing the Wols (Alfred Otto Wolfgang Schulze, 1913-1951) exhibit at the Menil Museum in Houston several years ago provided me a connection to my art, of which I was not cognizant, but I found intuitively recognizable within my on work.

Bio
NJ Weaver is a Texas mixed media artist and printmaker. She spent 10+ years working in the architectural/interior design field in Houston before moving to New Mexico in the early 90’s. In Albuquerque, she worked with Habitat for Humanity and other local area non-profit organizations in project management & fundraising. A lifelong art observer, New Mexico’s landscapes, arts and native crafts further sparked her interest and studies in painting, photography, and fiber arts.
In 2004, she returned to Austin and began exploring new mediums & art interests. Her encaustic paintings (beeswax & damar resin) combine and create intuitive abstract art rich in color, texture and light using paint, encaustic, paper, miscellaneous objects and ephemera.
NJ Weaver is a member of Woman Made Gallery and a Boardmember with PrintAustin. She currently works from her home studio in Round Rock, TX.
